Mike Tomlin wins first challenge in more than 2 years

It had gotten to the point where when Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin threw the challenge play you just assumed he would lose and needlessly give up a timeout. But late in the third quarter of Monday’s game with the Miami Dolphins, something miraculous happened. Tomlin challenged the spot on a fourth-down run by Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

And. He. Won.

This breaks a streak of 11 straight challenges going back to 2017. Tomlin and challenges had reach meme status among Steelers fans. But the challenge was timely. Miami had a bit of momentum but losing on fourth down meant the ball went back to Pittsburgh. They promptly drove down the field and capped the drive with a touchdown run by James Conner giving the Steelers a 24-14 lead.
