Mike Tomlin on the upcoming season: ‘I like the fact that Steeler Nation is pissed off’

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is back in Hampton VA for the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation Camp. He is back for his eleventh year and upon his return he always speaks to local sports broadcaster Bruce Rader.

Rader asked Tomlin about the pressure Tomlin is under as the head coach of a team historically good, and the additional pressure that comes when the team isn’t winning. But Tomlin didn’t shy away from it.

“I love that. To be honest with you, that’s what I love most about the job,” Tomlin said. “I embrace the high expectations associated with the job. I like the fact that Steeler Nation is pissed off, you know. As am I and we are.”

The pressure is intense this season for all the Steelers’ coaches coming off a season when no playoffs and some ugly losses late in games. One thing working heavily in Tomlin’s favor is the Rooney family is loyal to a fault. As much as fans will clamor for a Super Bowl, being competitive should keep Tomlin’s job safe.
