Mike Tindall lifts lid on surprise nose job after he 'couldn't breathe' amid rugby injuries

By Rebecca Cook

Mike Tindall has admitted he had to have plastic surgery to his nose after repeated rugby blows had left him unable to breathe normally.

The former rugby player, 43, broke his nose at least eight times during his 12-year sporting career.

Appearing on Loose Women’s special all-male panel, Mike said he finally had corrective surgery to straighten his nose after years of sinus problems.

Host Vernon Kay said to Mike: “Your nose job was for purpose though wasn't it? Your nose was literally underneath your left eye from rugby. It wasn't just for looks you had it done?”

Laughing, Mike replied: “No, I was stopping breathing during sleep so it needed to be done.”

He then added: “I also had my teeth done but that was because they were crossed and looked like a bag of chips.”

Vernon weighed in, joking: “It's a great game, rugby.”

Vernon and Mike featured in an all-male takeover of Loose Women to mark Mental Health Awareness Week alongside Strictly Come Dancing pro Johannes Radebe and radio DJ Roman Kemp.

Vernon hosted the special edition of the ITV morning programme, dubbed Loose Men, in the fourth all-male panel to feature on the show.

The panel discussed the importance of men speaking out about their mental health to mark the week.

Vernon said of his return to Loose Men that he was “really excited” to be back for another special ITV panel show.

He added: “Men’s mental health is so important to me. I learnt things from the panel members last time that I’d never known before.

“The reaction we all had last time was also fantastic and highlighted how there’s a real need for more discussion around these topics which we look forward to bringing to viewers.”

Strictly star Johannes said: “I think Loose Men is a brilliant concept. I’m thrilled we have a platform to sit as men and talk about issues affecting our wellbeing and livelihoods.

“I haven’t worked with these gentlemen before, but I’m aware of their brilliant work and I’m delighted to finally meet them.

“We will continue to bring awareness to mental health as it still plagues our society.”

The Loose Women handed the panel over to an all-male line up for the first time in 2020.

Last year’s instalment of Loose Men was hosted by Richard Madeley alongside panellists dancer Jordan Banjo, TV judge Robert Rinder and singer and actor Martin Kemp.

Loose Women editor, Sally Shelford, said: “It’s never been more important to encourage men to talk openly and honestly about their mental health and we’re proud that our panel of incredible Loose Men never shy away from the big issues.”

She said to expect “some very honest discussions, fiery debates and, of course, lots of laughs along the way, too”.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
