Mike Shanahan and Kirk Cousins spent time with the Redskins from 2012-13.
Cousins appeared in just eight games during those two seasons and threw eight touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions. But he’s confident in Cousins’ abilities and he thinks he’s the right man for the job in Minnesota, he just needs the help.
“You have the right [quarterback] there,” Shanahan said via the Star Tribune “Not everybody can see that, but hopefully when they get him a supporting cast, people will see that.”
It’s safe to say Shanahan is alluding to the offensive line when he talks about the supporting cast when you consider this is an offense with weapons like Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook.
Cousins’ stats in 2018 were solid, throwing for 4,298 yards and 30 touchdowns. But he wasn’t clutch when the Vikings needed him the most. Hopefully, that will change with a revamped offensive line.
With Cousins due $58 million over the next two seasons, the Vikings need to go all in and surround him with whatever he needs to win.
