Mike Read keeps it on the QT over Ukip calypso song U-turn

A slightly surreal tone to Mike Read’s BBC Radio Berkshire show on Wednesday, taking to the airwaves just hours after his unceremonious U-turn over his unfortunate Ukip calypso song. The former Radio 1 DJ was a news item on the home counties show but he chose not to refer to the controversy itself. At least, he hadn’t by the time Monkey lost the will to live and had to stop listening. Anyway, it’s in the nature of these things that the programme’s playlist will inevitably be scrutinised for Ukip references, and Simon and Garfunkel’s I am a Rock, his second tune of the show, offered up a humdinger, with “I am a rock, I am an island, I’ve built walls, a fortress steep and mighty, that none may penetrate”. Sounds like official Ukip policy.
