Mike Quick makes a case for Greg Ward earning one of the final WR spots on Eagles roster

Mike Quick is one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history and one of the most accomplished players to ever wear Kelly Green. When the five-time Pro Bowler gives his analysis of a player, folks should really listen. Now the Eagles play-by-play guy on the Eagles radio call for 94WIP, Quick has an up-close look at all the talent on this loaded Philadelphia roster.

One guy who has really impressed Quick is a former quarterback and current reserve wide receiver, Greg Ward. Quick believes the former Houston Cougars star is ready to take the next step and claim a roster spot.

“He’s ready,’’ said Quick via The Inquirer, a five-time Pro Bowler who has the third-most receiving touchdowns (61) and receiving yards (6,464) in Eagles history. “There’s a transition period for a guy like that who’s moving from [college] quarterback to receiver. But he’s so talented. He’s ready.’’

Ward is taking part in his third training camp with the Eagles and this time around, he’s making it difficult for the Eagles to cut him. Ward made a huge impression on Thursday night when he took a Clayton Thorson jump ball, on 4th-and-4 from the Jaguars’ 38-yard line, juked Jaguars defensive back C.J. Reavis and sped into the end zone for a touchdown.

“I’m studying like I’m a rookie,” Ward said after the Eagles’ 24-10 win over the Jaguars. “I’m studying like I have something to prove, which I really do. My main focus is doing it for my teammates and my family. I just keep that in the back of my head every single day. Try to come out here and do my best.”

If Ward can continue to outplay Mack Hollins, his dreams could finally come true.
