Mike Pompeo meets Kim Jong-un in North Korea

Footage of the latest meeting between Kim Jong-un and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been released by North Korea state broadcaster Korean Central Television.

Pompeo said on Wednesday that planning for a meeting between President Donald Trump and Mr Kim was going well and that details would likely be announced in the next few days.

Mr Pompeo and Mr Kim originally met in early April, in a visit only announced after the secretary of state had returned to the US.

Speaking to reporters as he returned from his latest trip to North Korea, accompanied by three Americans who had been detained there, Pompeo said a place and date had been set for a one-day summit between US and North Korean officials.

On Thursday morning, the freed hostages were greeted at an airbase outside Washington DC by Mr Trump after they touched down on US soil.

Speaking after they disembarked the plane together with Kim Dong Chul, Kim Sang-duk, Kim Hak Song, Mr Trump said: "We want to thank Kim Jong-un."

Referring to the possibility of reaching a denuclearisation deal with North Korea, Mr Trump said: "We will see if we can do something that people did not think was going to happen for many, many years and a lot of bad things could have happened in between."
