Mike Phelan has revealed what he will tell Manchester United's players before the new season begins.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working in the transfer market to provide United with multiple quality additions this summer as he attempts to end the Reds' long and overdue wait for a Premier League title, and signing Jadon Sancho certainly isn't a bad place to start.
However, until the transfer window closes, Solskjaer and assistant manager Phelan have time to work with the current personnel in pre-season and United began their preparation for the new campaign on Sunday by beating Derby County 2-1 at Pride Park.
While tactical tweaks are inevitable on the training ground, Phelan has explained getting United's players into the required frame of mind is also on the agenda and his aim is to get the squad mentally ready for a long, relentless year of football.

“Well, we survived last season. It was hectic," Phelan reflected on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.
"But I’ve always felt if you want to be a Manchester United player and you want to be involved at Manchester United, you’ve got to look at the season from the beginning to the end, which could be 60-odd games long.
"That means that you’re doing something right, you’re in the competitions and you’re getting through to the end. That’s vital. So you set your mindset to that challenge, it’s not that I'll play 20 games. No, your first thought should be, I’m playing 60 games.
"If you look at it that way, you get a really determined group of players who already to go August to May and beyond."
