Mike Phelan 'scouts' potential Manchester United January transfer and more rumours

Manchester United are eager to complete a move for Birmingham teenager Jude Bellingham, according to reports, as they continue to look for young talent to develop for the future.

As well as bringing in talented first team signings over the summer in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, United also brought in some academy talent including the exciting Hannibal Mejbri and striker Dillon Hoogewerf.

And it looks like they could be looking to more youngsters to develop, as The Telegraph  suggest United want to sign 16-year-old midfielder Bellingham next month, with assistant manager Mike Phelan having reportedly watched him against West Brom last weekend.

United may have to beat off competition, however, with scouts from a number of Premier League rivals as well as some Bundesliga clubs rumoured to have watched him this season.

The youngster has 20 senior appearances for Birmingham this season at senior level, with two goals and an assist in the Championship.

Meanwhile, United are considering a move for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, reports say.

Sport  suggest that although Everton are linked with a move for the 19-year-old, it is actually United who are interested.

They say United might even offer up to €20 million for the youngster.

Finally, Atletico Madrid are interested in a move for Nemanja Matic, according to  Sky Sports Italia.

The report states Diego Simeone’s side will look to sign the Serbian once his United contract expires at the end of the season.

However, a contrasting report from Gazzetta says Matic will leave United next month with a move to AC Milan or Inter Milan the most likely.
