Mike Phelan on why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to be permanent Manchester United manager

Mike Phelan believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to be named permanent manager of Manchester United.

The Norwegian coach has restored spirits since he took over at the club in December of last year and has restored United's dreams of a top-four finish, as well as improbably guiding them to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Even if United aren't to finish the season with any silverware Solskjaer's caretaker reign will mark an incredible difference in atmosphere since he took over from Jose Mourinho last year.

As well as an immediate change in results there is a new positivity around the club, with the decision to bring Phelan back to Old Trafford one of a huge amount of positives amongst supporters.

Under the new management set-up Solskjaer has brought back many traits of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, and assistant coach Phelan believes his man-management skills make him ready for the top job.

"Managing people is no different wherever you are,” he told the  FOX Football Podcast when asked if Solskjaer was ready for the permanent role.

“You try and get the best out of people, you try communicate well, and he’s got all those skills. It just so happens now that he’s got an opportunity at Manchester United, which he’s relishing.”
