Mike Perry issues public apology, vows to ‘be better all around’ after transgressions

UFC welterweight Mike Perry says he wants to do better.

On Saturday night, Perry, who recently announced that he’ll become a father with girlfriend Latory Gonzalez, issued a public apology on Twitter in the wake of recent transgressions. He said he will “be better all around.”

“I want to be a better role model for my family,” Perry wrote. “For my unborn son. My Queen (Latory) and for myself so I can earn the respect I deserve. To my sponsors and my bosses at (UFC) I want to apologize for how my actions have impacted our relationships. I will be better all around.”

Last month, MMA Junkie obtained court documents showing that Perry’s ex-wife, Danielle Nickerson, filed for a restraining order against him in March. A Florida judge, however, ruled against Nickerson, and she was denied the order. In three written statements, Nickerson alleged that Perry threatened physical harm against her.

Nickerson’s allegations came on the heels of Perry being captured on video punching out a restaurant employee during a heated altercation in Texas. A police report was filed, but no arrests were made.

Shortly after the incident, Perry told the UFC he would seek professional treatment for alcohol dependency. In response, the UFC said it wouldn’t offer Perry a fight until he’s evaluated after the completion of treatment. It’s unclear of Perry has followed through.
