Mike Mitchell's $48,620 NFL fine was for a hit on Charcandrick West, not Alex Smith

Steelers safety Mike Mitchell is almost $58,000 lighter after the NFL fined him for two illegal hits in the Chiefs game.

Mitchell was fined $48,620 for a head shot on Chiefs running back Charcandrick West and another $9,115 for a low hit on Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. The hit on Smith was penalized in the game, but the hit on West was not.

It was reported Thursday the $48,620 fine was for the hit on Smith, but the hefty amount is for the hit on West and because Mitchell is a repeat offender per the NFL fine schedule.

Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell was fined $12,154 for his illegal celebration after he scored a touchdown. Bell used the goalpost as a prop and was penalized 15 yards in the game.
