The Frank Lampard revolution is continuing to take shape at Stamford Bridge.
After securing a top-four finish in their first season under the former England international last season, Chelsea will be aiming to go one better this time around and mount a Premier League title charge.
The Blues, who were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton in a pre-season friendly at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, have been the big hitters in the transfer market so far this summer, setting out their ambition to close the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
After securing a deal back in February to land Ajax sensation Hakim Ziyech for £37.4million, the Blues bolstered their attacking options even further in June, landing long-term target Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £50million.
Chelsea's persistence in tracking another long-term target eventually paid off earlier this week as well as they landed Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell in a £50million deal, finally bringing an end to Lampard's left-back troubles.
The Blues then added two centre-backs to their ranks in the space of just 24 hours, landing former Nice centre-back Malang Sarr, who will be sent out on loan for the 2020/21 season, and former Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva.
Silva's arrival is the latest piece in Lampard's jigsaw, meaning the Blues boss is almost there assembling his squad for the start of the new season. Bayer Leverkusen attacking-midfielder Kai Havertz is poised to become the club's next addition, with the Germany international set to seal a £90million switch to Stamford Bridge.
Should Havertz's impending arrival in West London get over the line without any late snags or hitches, Chelsea, you would think, would only be keen on adding one more player to their armoury this summer: a new goalkeeper.
The Blues have been linked with a whole host of different shot-stoppers in recent weeks and months, including Dean Henderson of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak and Ajax's Andre Onana.
Now, though, a fresh name has come to light in recent days in the shape of Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 25-year-old has been making a name for himself in Ligue 1 over the last couple of years, racking up 67 Ligue 1 appearances since the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
And reports in the national media claim that Chelsea are mulling over the prospect of launching a bid for the shot-stopper, who is valued at £27million.
And should Chelsea pursue a move for Maignan and lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer he would be able to lay his hands on his dream shirt number in England.
Currently, the 25-year-old, formerly of PSG, wears No.16 for Lille, a number that he has worn throughout his career, both at Lille and PSG.
And with Chelsea yet to officially announce their new squad numbers ahead of the start of the new season, Maignan could land the No.16 shirt he was to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.
The No.16 shirt was left vacant last season after Brazilian winger Kenedy went out on loan to Spanish outfit Getafe and it is quite possible that he will head out on loan once again this term or be allowed to leave permanently.
Should that prove to be the case, Maignan would be in pole position to land shirt No.16 should he arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.
