Mike Gorman on Kevin Garnett’s larger-than-life aura with the Boston Celtics

Even from hundreds or even thousands of miles away through the medium of television, Boston Celtics Hall of Fame big man Kevin Garnett was a commanding presence in his heyday, and Boston broadcaster Mike Gorman had a bird’s-eye view when covering Garnett’s Celtics during their last era of contention. “He controlled everything,” said Gorman in a recent interview with the “Green With Envy” podcast.

“He controlled where you sat, he controlled when you ate, when you didn’t eat on the plane,” added the Celtics broadcaster. “He was just a total control freak. And because the team was doing so well, everybody went along with it. But he was something in that way.”

“There’s nobody really who matched KG’s intensity in a room. He took the room over.”

“The conversation stopped when he walked into a room,” remembered Gorman. “He was so big and so physically imposing. He didn’t like to be called the Seven footer. But he was 7-foot or 7-foot-1 easily, and he had long arms. And so when he came into a room, everybody was looking up at him.
