Mike Glennon, Gardner Minshew to split snaps before starter is named vs. Bears

The Jacksonville Jaguars will head into Week 16 with a quarterback competition on their hands. On Wednesday morning, coach Doug Marrone announced that Mike Glennon and Gardner Minshew II will split practice reps before a starter is named for Week Sunday’s game against Chicago.

This news comes after Minshew started Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but wasn’t able to spark the offense. He finished the day 22-of-29 for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and no picks. While that doesn’t look like a terrible stat line to the eyes, a lot of his completions were short passes.

Glennon started during the three weeks prior to Sunday’s game. In his first game (against the Cleveland Browns) he looked decent, but things fell apart against the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans. He ultimately finished his stretch 61-of-100 (61%) for 600 yards, three picks, three touchdowns.

Regardless of who starts, Glennon or Minshew will be up against a hungry Bears team that is fighting to make the postseason. With a 7-7 record, they can acquire the No. 7 seed with a win over the Jags and a Arizona Cardinals loss.
