Mike Florio: Bears would be ‘perfect’ landing spot for Pete Carroll, if fired by Seahawks

The Chicago Bears are just one game away from the end of a disappointing 2021 season, which is expected to end with Matt Nagy’s firing. It’s the first of what could be several potential changes during an important offseason.

But the Bears aren’t the only team weighing options at head coach right now. There are some around the NFL that believe Pete Carroll could be on his way out of Seattle.

If Carroll is fired by the Seahawks, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes the Bears would “make perfect sense” as a potential landing spot.

“You can bring in a regime that will keep you in the neighborhood of 10-7, 9-8, maybe you get to the playoffs, maybe you don’t, or you strive for something more,” Florio said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Tuesday. “And I’d be more fascinated by the possibility of bringing Pete Carroll to town if he gets fired by the Seahawks. Because I think the Bears make perfect sense as an immediate landing spot for Pete Carroll. Because the Bears could do and have done a hell of a lot worse than what Pete Carroll did for 10 years in Seattle.”

The Bears are expected to begin their head coaching search after their Week 18 finale against the Minnesota Vikings. There are a slew of potential first-year head coaching candidates that Chicago will likely consider. But there are also some experienced NFL head coaches that could be an option, including Carroll, Doug Pederson and Jim Harbaugh.

As for what the Bears ultimately wind up doing at head coach after Nagy, no one knows.

“Dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things, and that makes it difficult for the rational mind to predict what the dysfunctional team will do,” Florio said.
