Mike Daniels opts to sign with the Detroit Lions

The Cleveland Browns were the first destination for free agent defensive tackle Mike Daniels following his release from the Green Bay Packers, but the big man opted to choose another team.

Daniels agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions on Friday, a day after visiting the Browns. The Lions are paying Daniels a significant sum; according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Daniels will get $9.1 million for one year. A high percentage, $7.8 million, is guaranteed.

That’s a stiff price tag, one it appears Browns GM John Dorsey was not willing to give Daniels. With Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson in place at DT already, Daniels would have taken a supporting role. He’s destined for a similar role in Detroit as well, as he joins a Lions front that features Damon Harrison, A’Shawn Robinson, DaShawn Hand and Trey Flowers. Harrison is holding out for a new contract, and this signing makes that a very interesting move by the Lions.
