Mike D’Antoni released from hospital

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni has been released from the hospital.

However, D’Antoni is not expected to coach the team’s final regular season game, which is Tuesday night at the Oklahoma City Thunder. The game has major implications for seeding in the Western Conference playoffs.

According to Jonathan Feigan of the Houston Chronicle, he was released after a last series of tests showed enough improvement from the intestinal virus that had him hospitalized since Friday. He had been severely dehydrated over the weekend but had shown improvement Monday.

The Rockets have won six straight games, including the last two, without D’Antoni.

Associate head coach Jeff Bzdelik and assistants Roy Rogers, Brett Gunning and Matt Brase have been in charge of the team and led the Rockets to two of the team’s biggest blowouts of the season in the past two games. The Rockets set the NBA record with 27 three-pointers on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns in their last regular-season home game.

“This is a by-product of Mike and the culture he’s created here,” Bzdelik said.

D’Antoni, 67, was named head coach of the Rockets in June 2016 and he received his second NBA Coach of the Year award for the 2016-17 season.
