Mike D'Antoni exits Manhattan Beach with a $9.5-million home sale

July 08--Mike D'Antoni is leaving Los Angeles on a high note, as far as real estate goes.

The former Lakers head coach and his wife, Laurel, on Tuesday sold their home in Manhattan Beach for $9.5 million -- nearly 40% more than what they paid for the property in 2013.

The three-story contemporary on a corner walk street was built in 2003 and features complete or partial ocean views from most bedrooms and public areas.

Within the 5,000 square feet of open space are living and dining rooms, an updated kitchen, a wine bar, five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. A cherry-paneled elevator services all three floors, including a sub-basement level with a 2,000-bottle wine cellar and tasting room.

The D'Antonis, who relocated to West Virginia this spring, put the house on the market in March for $9.8 million. They bought the house in April 2013 for $6.9 million, records show.

Ed Kaminsky of Sports Star Relocation was the listing agent. David Caskey of Shorewood Realtors represented the buyer.

D'Antoni replaced interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff in 2012, signing a three-year, $12-million contract to be the head coach of the Lakers. During his tenure with the team, he piloted the Lakers to a 67-87 record before resigning from his post following the 2013-14 season.

The 64-year-old was in play for the Denver Nuggets head coaching opening this off-season, but the job ultimately went to former Sacramento Kings head coach Michael Malone. D'Antoni served as head coach of the Phoenix Suns from 2003 to 2008, winning NBA coach of the year in 2005, and the New York Knicks from 2008 to 2012.
