Mike Conley traded to Utah in deal sending Kyle Korver to Memphis

Another big name is changing teams in the NBA and altering the Western Conference landscape.

Longtime Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley is on his way to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, Grayson Allen, the No. 23 pick in Thursday’s draft and a future first round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

While this makes the Jazz more of a threat in the Western Conference to the Lakers, the trade has one player that could be a potential Lakers target in Korver.

Korver, who played with LeBron James for nearly two seasons in Cleveland thrived alongside him, has a partially guaranteed contract for the 2019-20 season. So, the Grizzlies can waive him while not having to pay Korver his full salary.

Perhaps the biggest thing standing in the way of Korver potentially joining the Lakers is where he is in his career arc. At 38 years old and turning 39 before next year’s playoffs, Korver may decide to pack it up. However, not having won an NBA championship and the opportunity to join a contender might be enough to have him hold off retirement for one more year.
