Mike Conley made the same geographic mistake that Donovan Mitchell roasted a fan for

The Utah Jazz are one of the few NBA teams that choose to go by the state and not the home city. It’s confusing — almost as confusing as a Utah team being called the Jazz.

Still, in the midst of Wednesday’s trade that sent longtime Grizzlies guard Mike Conley to the Jazz, the veteran guard took to Twitter to thank Memphis fans and express excitement for the move to Utah.

He just made an unfortunate geographic mistake in the process. At the end of his tweet, Conley called Utah a city, which happens. Utah is a state. The Jazz play in Salt Lake City. It shouldn’t be a huge deal.

This probably would have been easily overlooked (aside from a few tweets in the mentions) had Jazz star Donovan Mitchell not called out a Twitter user for the exact same mistake a week ago.

Mitchell even had the backing of the Jazz Twitter account.

The timing made it a bit awkward for the newly revamped Jazz backcourt. I mean, the Mitchell tweet was a week ago. Fans still remembered it happening.

Conley eventually deleted the initial tweet and correctly mentioned Salt Lake City the second time around.

That should avoid the awkwardness, especially since Mitchell will give him a pass this time around.
