Mike Ashley urged to end Newcastle United takeover 'soap opera' and leave the Magpies

Mike Ashley should end the Newcastle United takeover 'soap opera' and cut his ties with the Magpies.

Thats the view of pundit Dean Windass, who remains unconvinced as to whether the United owner truly wants to sell the club.

Complications with the Premier League's owners' and directors' test led to Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) walking away from the deal last summer.

The consortium fronted by financier Amanda Staveley remain committed to the deal, while Newcastle are calling for a 'fair, full and timely hearing' after launching arbitration proceedings against the Premier League.

Windass has called for a resolution to the ongoing saga, and believes supporters need 'clarification' as to whether there will be a change of ownership at St James' Park.

The former Bradford City, Hull City and Middlesbrough striker reckons the time has come for Ashley to cut his losses and end his turbulent 13-year tenure on Tyneside.

Windass told Transfer Tavern: “It’s just a long soap opera really. With Mike Ashley, is he going to sell or is he not going to sell? We need clarification really.

"Let’s move on. Let’s get on with it. If you don’t want to be there, sell it! That’s the main thing that you talk about regarding Newcastle every time; ‘is something going on? Is he selling it?’

“I don’t know the politics of Mike Ashley’s business, but sometimes, you just have to cut your losses and say ‘I’ve had my bit, I’ve done well for the football club, let them move on without me now.’

“You’ve done your job, let somebody else take over. Now, the supporters are there, the supporters pay the money for the games. Give them something to back as well.”
