Steve Bruce says that he has "irons in the fire" ahead of what he believes will be a tough transfer window for most clubs.

The Magpies aren't alone in the Premier League when it comes to getting a done deal over the line with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Chelsea and Brentford also waiting to make a breakthrough.

But they have watched on as sides like Watford, Leicester, Leeds and Man City have captured some of their targets, while newly promoted Norwich City have snapped up EIGHT new signings.

Mike Ashley must now reconsider everything at Newcastle United - starting with recruitment stance

Amid the deafening silence on incoming signings came the heartbreaking news this week that Newcastle's arbitration hearing designed to resurrect a takeover led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has been shoved back until next year.

Mike Ashley it seems will be United's owner for all of the new season unless he unexpectedly finds totally new and super rich bidders.

If ever an ice cold shudder of apprehension was shot down the spine of football fans at the height of a sweltering summer this was it. Mr Mean, football's Ebenezer Scrooge, in charge of United's transfer policy for yet another campaign. Look and weep!

Midfielder linked with Newcastle left out of Midtjylland's Champions League squad

Reports on Monday linked Newcastle and Brentford, as well as French club Stade Rennais, with a move for Swedish international midfielder Jens Cajuste.

The 21-year-old was part of Sweden's European Championship squad this summer and speculation over his future has now intensified further after he was left out of the Danish champions' squad for their Champions League qualifier with Celtic on Tuesday evening.
