Mike Ashley's bizarre Magpies comment, and insight into Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence: NUFC evening update

The wait is nearly over - Premier League football is just a matter of days away from returning.

Newcastle United head down to Liverpool knowing the odds are against them but hoping to spring a surprise result.

Steve Bruce will be holding his pre-match press conference tomorrow before the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday, and we'll get to the bottom of some of the key questions such as the fitness of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron or Andy Carroll.

Mike Ashley: "I don't pick the Newcastle team and I never have."

 

That's the claim of Mike Ashley in his latest interview.

We're not really sure he's ever been accused of picking the side but he's hit back at the idea of it.

Jonathan Woodgate claims that Middlesbrough are a bigger club than NUFC

 

The Boro boss was asked how Marc Bola and Anfernee Dijksteel have settled in, and if they've coped with the step-up from lower leagues.

The reaction was somewhat strange as Woodgate took to speaking about the recent history of Boro and Newcastle.

What Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence bring to Newcastle United

Andy Dawson worked for Steve Bruce at Hull City, and the pairing of Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

The former defender who now works as a coach at Scunthorpe spoke positively about Bruce and his coaching staff as he told Chronicle Live about what it's like to work with the trio.

Achraf Lazaar on the full-back's future

Surely there isn't a return possible for Achraf Lazaar who has been shipped out on loan again.

He's now playing for Serie B side Cosenza but his agent isn't ruling out a return to Tyneside - his contract isn't up until 2021.
