Mike Ashley returns to the scene at Newcastle United for final day clash with Fulham

Mike Ashley returned to the scene with Newcastle United for the club's final game of the season against Fulham.

The Sports Direct magnate was in the stands to watch the Magpies take on the relegated London side.

Ashley is set to hold talks with Rafa Benitez next week, but attended his first Toon game since the 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley back in February.

It remains to be seen whether he holds any match day dialogue with Benitez.

Benitez has stated he will approach the talks next week with Ashley in a "positive manner" but so far neither party can agree on the club's transfer blueprint of signing younger players.

Benitez said before the game: "I can say yes or no to a player, but still I don't control the finances.

"It's not that you can guarantee anything.

"I can say 'yes, I want to sign this player', but we don't have the money or we have the money."

Benitez stated last week that he would not be heading away on holiday straight after the season leaving the door ajar for positive contract talks.
