Mike Ashley makes offer for video games retailer

Mike Ashley’s £52 million cash offer from Sports Direct for video games retailer Game Digital has been unanimously backed by the board.

Game has published a circular in relation to the mandatory offer, with directors unanimously recommending that Game shareholders accept the offer.

The new takeover could result in House of Fraser stores rolling out purpose-built gaming arenas for video gamers.

Ashley’s group group bought a 26 per cent in the company in 2017 and increased the stake to 38.5 per cent last month sparking a takeover bid.

Sports Direct’s 30p per share offer for Game represents a 27 per cent premium to the company’s closing share price on 4 June, the last day of trading before the bid.
