Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley made his way into the Toon dressing room after the 4-0 win over Fulham to thank Rafa Benitez and the squad for their efforts this season.
Ashley is believed to have cancelled an end of season trip to Las Vegas, but players have instead been paid their agreed bonus in advance of their June pay packet.
The trip to Vegas was put on the table at the infamous pizza summit back in October but a host of players had already booked holidays after the subject was revisited recently.
Indeed, some players departed for their summer breaks straight after the game at Fulham with their bags packed for a holiday.
Despite the trip - which was meant to be a reward for staying up - to the US being scrapped players stated there was no animosity with Ashley on their way out of Craven Cottage.
When asked about Ashley's appearance in the dressing room, Benitez said: "He said congratulations and thank you very much for the season.
"He was congratulating the team."
When asked if the 4-0 romp of Fulham in the sunshine will whet Ashley's appetite as boss, Benitez said: "Everyone can see we have a group of players who care.
"It wasn’t amazing, I think we can do better as they were pushing and doing well.
"I am proud and really pleased yes, but it was not the perfect game."
When pushed on Ashley's emergence after the game, Benitez said: "We will have a meeting next week."
