Mikaeel Kular's dad shattered as son's killer mum released from jail after serving half her sentence

The shattered father of Mikaeel Kular has been left devastated after his son’s killer mother was released from prison having served just over half of her sentence.

Zahid Saeed, from Fife, said his son had been ‘failed by the justice system’ after Rosdeep Adekoya spent less than seven years of her 11-year sentence behind bars.

The 41-year-old killer was caged at Edinburgh High Court in 2014 after she beat the three-year-old to death when he was sick following a family meal in Nando’s.

Devastated Zahid said he was furious after learning evil Rosdeep had been freed from Cornton Vale prison in Stirling on Saturday.

The 36-year-old hit out at Police Scotland, claiming he has been ‘left him in the dark’ over Adekoya’s release despite officers promising to notify him back in 2014.

He told the Record: “The justice system has truly failed Mikaeel.

“I am really disappointed in Police Scotland and victim support.

“I was told in 2014 that I would be the first person to find out when she was released but instead I have just been left in the dark.

“I found out through the media. I thought it was a joke, I couldn’t believe that she was out so soon.

“How many times does the system need to fail?”

Three-year-old Mikaeel died in January 2014.

Rosdeep, who has four other children, then stashed his body in a suitcase before dumping it behind her sister’s house in Kirkcaldy.

The Edinburgh mum told police he had vanished from their family home and tricked thousands of local people into searching for him.

Two days he was found in Adekoya's sister's garden in Kirkcaldy.

He had 40 injuries on his body.

Her lies began to unravel during an interview with officers when she told them ‘it was an accident and I panicked’.

Adekoya was initially charged with murder but convicted of the lesser crime of culpable homicide in August 2014 after telling the High Court in Edinburgh she didn’t mean to kill her son.

We previously told how she was released from prison just four years into her sentence as part of a scheme to prepare her for freedom.

It is believed she had been working in a shop in Stirling.

Dad Zahid said he struggles to speak about the death of his son, but the pain of his killer’s actions still haunts him.

He said: “Any decent human being would have confessed straight away.

“She acted so callously, she tried to cover up his death as a mistake.

“It wasn’t a mistake. Any decent human with a conscience would have confessed at the beginning.”

“No parent should have to suffer this horrific event.”

“The justice system needs to change. Criminals like her should not be freed early.”

He told the Record he fears where Rosdeep will relocate to and hasn’t been given any information about her whereabouts.

“I feel really frustrated knowing she is walking the streets. I have no idea where she is and no one will tell me,” he added.

The grieving dad says he often thinks about Mikaeel’s big smile and hopes that is how he will be remembered.

He said: “It is hard to talk about but Mikaeels picture with that smile of his tells you everything you need to know about who he is.

“He always had that big smile on his face.”

“I am very thankful for the Edinburgh community. I will never forget what they did for me and how they have supported me.”

The Daily Record reached out to Police Scotland for comment but they declined to comment.
