Paderborn boss Ralf Kettemann has described Mika Baur's potential move to Celtic as "worst case scenario" for his side.
The Hoops are determined to land the German, 22, and have already had a £4million bid booted into touch by the new Bundesliga side.
Paderborn feel that they do not have to sell their prized asset despite his contract expiring next summer and Kettemann accepts that the Germany under-21s international may well move on.
The head coach does also, however, believe that he is confident that his club will keep hold of their star and that he won't move on despite Celtic's desire.
But if he does, Kettemann says the club will have to be ready for that situation should it come.
He told NW Sport: "Of course, we're considering the worst-case scenario, that Mika and Laurin might leave. But I'm confident that both will stay.
"And if not, we'll find a solution. We have good players and good ideas. I'm really relaxed about it."
Celtic have been chasing Baur for a number of months now and hoped that £4m would be enough to convince Paderborn to sell.
We understand the Scottish champions remain positive about a deal, as does Baur's representation.
