Miguel plays free show after Northwestern concert canceled due to weather

June 01--Miguel and his people were scrambling to find a venue where the Grammy-winning R singer could perform at the last minute over the weekend. He had been scheduled to headline Northwestern's Dillo Day at the Lakefill in Evanston Saturday, but the music festival was canceled due to severe winds.

Not wanting to let his fans down, Miguel ended up deciding on Joe's Bar, winner of this year's Academy of Country Music's Nightclub of the Year award.

"(Miguel) is friends with RJ Melman from Studio Paris (nightclub)," said Joe's Bar co-owner Ed Warm, who co-owns Bub City with Melman and his siblings. "RJ had Wyclef Jean booked for a performance, so RJ called me and we were able to do an impromptu late night show (at Joe's)."

The announcement was made via social media just hours before the show at Joe's, which didn't start until around 2 a.m. on Sunday. A$AP Ferg -- also scheduled to perform at Dillo Day -- and Chicagoan Chance the Rapper joined Miguel on stage for the last-minute show.

"just landed in london STILL buzzing off of last nights pop up show in Chicago!" Miguel tweeted Monday. "MASSIVE SHOUT to ASAP Ferg, Chance t..."

Warm -- whose venue books non-country acts from time to time -- spoke highly of Miguel and his people.

"Miguel and his band and crew couldn't be nicer guys," Warm said. "Some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of working with."
