White Sox winning streak ends with 5-3 loss to Rays

CHICAGO _ White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana held the Rays to two earned runs over six innings Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field, but the Sox halted a five game winning streak with a 5-3 loss to the Rays.

Former Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez hit an RBI single with two on base in the second inning, and Mikie Mahtook homered in the fourth off Quintana to give the Rays an early 2-0 lead.

The Rays scored three runs in the seventh against Sox relievers Juan Minaya and Dan Jennings.

Rain started to fall in the seventh inning, and the game was delayed for 35 minutes in the top of the ninth with the Sox trailing, 5-3. The loss means the Sox will finish under .500 for the fourth straight year.
