Miguel Almiron 'set to be dropped' from Newcastle United's XI for trip to Leicester City

Miguel Almiron is facing the axe from the Newcastle United XI for the visit to Leicester after failing to get on the scoresheet this season.

The £21million man excites fans with his desire to get forward but has faced criticism from some for his lack of effectiveness in-front of goal, wasting good chances against both Watford and Brighton within the last month.

The Daily Star claims that Steve Bruce is considering whether to leave Almiron out of the team for Sunday's trip to the King Power with Allan Saint-Maximin the ideal replacement.

Saint-Maximin would have to pass a fitness test having finished his brief cameo against Brighton at the weekend feeling his hamstring but if deemed fit enough could fit straight into the side.

The report suggests that moving Fabian Schar forward into a holding role, and bringing in Federico Fernandez into team at the expense of Almiron could also be an option.

It also says Sean Longstaff or Ki could replace Jonjo Shelvey, who is also facing the axe for his performance against Brighton.

Leicester City face their own selection choices with key man James Maddison a doubt having injured his ankle last weekend.
