Miguel Almiron's agent drops bombshell about Newcastle player on Paraguayan radio

Miguel Almiron's agent has told a Paraguyan radio station that his client may leave Newcastle soon.

In quotes unlikely to endear him to Steve Bruce or the United hierarchy, Daniel Campos confirmed Atletico Madrid had scouted Almiron and also claimed the player would have left Newcastle by now if the pandemic had not happened.

He also said that he may make "that jump" away from Newcastle in June and suggested the player is angling for a move to a team that plays with more possession.

The Campos quotes were from radio station Futgol 970 were translated by Paraguyan journalist Roberto Rojas.

"Miguel Almirón was being observed by Atletico Madrid but no offer was made. When everything returns to normal, Miguel will take a leap in quality," Campos said.

"Miguel’s work rate at Newcastle and Paraguay has been great. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, he would’ve been elsewhere. Perhaps he would like to play on a team that has a lot of possession. Maybe in June, he’ll make that jump."

While the Almiron quotes will spark some panic for Newcastle fans who appreciate the player's impact since signing in January 2018 for what was a possible club record, United have the player tied down to a long-term contract and will be in the driving seat when it comes to his future.
