Miguel Almiron posts encouraging injury update from Newcastle training ground

Miguel Almiron is back running and kicking a ball again - just two-and-a-half weeks after leaving the pitch in tears with a hamstring injury.

The Paraguay international pulled up during Newcastle's 3-1 win against Southampton last month and looked inconsolable as he was replaced by Christian Atsu midway through the first-half.

Almiron limped through the mixed zone post-match but did not require any assistance or a set of crutches making his way out of St James' Park.

ChronicleLive previously revealed Almiron did not need an operation and was due to see a specialist in Spain before returning to Benton to start his rehabilitation - having been fortunate with injuries in his career up to that point.

Newcastle confirmed that Almiron would miss the final three games of the season but it seems their record signing is well on track when it comes to being fit for next month's Copa America.

Having initially been restricted to gym work at Newcastle's training ground, Almiron uploaded a video on Instagram on Thursday - which captured the 25-year-old taking part in a high-energy pass and move exercise.

Newcastle remain in communication with the Paraguayan Football Association ahead of Los Guaraníes ' Group B opener against Qatar on June 16.
