Miguel Almiron on Atletico Madrid's 'radar' and agent claims Newcastle forward has release clause

Miguel Almiron's agent has claimed the Newcastle United attacker is "on the radar" of Atletico Madrid.

Daniel Campos also insists the Paraguayan playmaker has a release clause in his deal with the Magpies.

Almiron became United's record signing when he signed from MLS outfit Atlanta United in January 2019, and has quickly endeared himself to supporters despite an initial goal drought.

The 26-year-old netted his seventh goal of the season in the emphatic victory at Bournemouth on Wednesday night, calmly guiding the ball into the top corner with his weaker foot.

However, reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes.net claim Almiron is attracting the attention of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

Almiron's agent believes the attacker has been on the Spanish giant's radar since his time in the MLS, and that talks have been held with the club's hierarchy.

However, Campos stressed nothing official has been discussed at this stage, and questioned whether the Magpies would even be open to a sale.

Campos told beINSPORTS USA: "We are in contact with the people of Atletico Madrid, with the director but nothing official. Even before his departure from Newcastle, he was already under the radar at the club.

"The quickness of social media allows for a long of things that aren't true. It does not shock me that Miguel is in the interest of various big teams.

"The truth is everything is a field of assumptions. We have to see if Newcastle United wants to negotiate a departure. Miguel's release clause is high.

"Miguel is a player that fits perfectly in Diego Simeone's system."
