Miguel Almiron has shown glimpses of his quality but is yet to justify record £20m Newcastle price-tag

Miguel Almiron is yet to justify his record price-tag at Newcastle and his display against Leicester City on Friday summed up the Paraguay star's entire stay in England.

Newcastle paid a record £20million fee in January for Almiron to displace the £16m paid to Real Madrid for Michael Owen in 2005.

But Almiron, 25, is still searching for his first goal or even an assist since joining from MLS champions Atlanta.

Having impressed with a magnificent performance on his home debut against Huddersfield Town, the playmaker has since faded.

Tottenham fans absolutely loved what hat-trick hero Lucas Moura did after beating Huddersfield

He continues to be an enigma with flashes of undoubted quality without yet having a decisive impact on games.

This display was typical of his efforts so far with plenty of running and effort, some skill yet little end product.

A confident Almiron admirably showed for the ball a lot in a wide left position and was certainly industrious.

He forced Kasper Schmeichel into a save with a left-foot shot on the turn from just inside the box in the 24th minute.

It prompted chants of his name from the away supporters in the corner of the King Power Stadium.

Then Almiron's bold attempted run into box saw the ball rebound out for Matt Ritchie to cross for Ayoze Perez to score.

Almiron showed a bit of fire too when he smashed the ball into the hoarding after being unable to connect with a high pass from Perez.

Arsenal transfer interest has Bournemouth agonising over star man Ryan Fraser

After the break he showed his quick speed with a burst into the box which Wes Morgan cut out.

But his finishing was woeful and wild after he had a free sight of goal following Fabian Schar's superb run.

And there is no sign of his 13-goal haul with Atlanta last season being repeated in England - especially once he was subbed.
