Miguel Almiron has benefited the most from Newcastle's formation change - says Steve Bruce

Miguel Almiron is relishing playing in Newcastle United's revamped formation with Steve Bruce believing the playmaker is setting a great example to his team-mates.

The South American is thriving at the moment in Newcastle's 4-3-1-2 system and scored 10/10 in the Chronicle ratings in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

Almiron dragged his team through the dying stages with just nine men on the field and showed genuine leadership qualities towards the end of the win.

Bruce said: "Well, over the last few weeks with the change in formation and system, the one person who has benefited from it all, basically, is Almiron.

"He's been terrific in what we're trying to set out and of course when he adds a couple of goals to it – he scored against Leeds too."

Almiron took his time to impress on Tyneside after his £21million move from Atlanta United in Major League Soccer.

But Bruce reflected: "I've said since I walked through the door here, he's been here for a couple of years he's a great pro, great lad, a joy to work with – my job would be easy if they were all like Almiron, and he's playing very, very well at the minute, which is pleasing.

"You need your big players at tough times to stand up and certainly Miggy has proved very very good for us."
