Miguel Almiron goal sparks brilliant reactions from Newcastle United, Gary Lineker and pundits

Miguel Almiron broke his 27-game goal drought to score his first goal for Newcastle United as Steve Bruce’s side beat Crystal Palace 1-0.

The midfielder has endured a frustrating time in the Premier League since making his £21million move from Atlanta United in January, but finally broke his duck in front of goal, rewarding Steve Bruce after the manager’s continued show of faith.

Almiron profited from a knock-down by Andy Carroll, who steered the ball back into the path of the Paraguay international inside the box. Acrobatically converting from ten yards out, it marked Almiron’s first goal for the club as Newcastle moved to ninth in the Premier League with another important win.

Sky Sports pundits were delighted for the 25-year-old, with Jeff Stelling emphatically describing the celebrations at St James’ Park as Almiron was lofted into the air by his teammates.

Meanwhile, Gary Lineker took to social media to comically joke about the midfielder’s long overdue moment of relief having finally got off the mark.

But it wasn't just pundits getting in on the act, Newcastle also put out the brilliant tweet below.

Almiron will now be hoping the goals begin to flow ahead of a critical Christmas period, with Manchester United next on the horizon for Newcastle.
