Miguel Almiron gives Newcastle United fans positive message after Real Madrid links

Miguel Almiron has insisted he is focused on nothing but playing for Newcastle United - despite rumours he may quit the club after just six months.

Reports in South America have linked Almiron with Real Madrid no less, but the playmaker will return to Benton after a break following his contributions in the Copa America.

Almiron shone in the tournament in Brazil but his Paraguay side were knocked out of the competition on penalties this week.

When asked specifically about the links with Real Madrid, Almiron, speaking to ABC TV, said: "I don’t know anything about it.

"I was focused on the Copa America with the national team, but now I’m focused on Newcastle."

Almiron will now be hoping to recreate some of the performances with his country for the Magpies next season.

Reflecting on the Copa America, he said: "We have a united team.

"A team that doesn’t want to sell smoke to the press, that gives it all on the pitch and for the shirt and shows respect, always."
