Miguel Almiron dubbed the 'unluckiest player' at Newcastle United

Miguel Almiron has been dubbed the "unluckiest player" at Newcastle United as his goalscoring drought in black and white goes on.

The former club record signing struggled in the Magpies' defeat at Aston Villa on Monday night, and the 25-year-old is yet to find the net since his move from the MLS in January.

The Paraguayan international failed to make an impact at Villa Park along with summer signings Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin as United misfired in the attacking third.

Almiron's display has prompted fresh calls for head coach Steve Bruce to consider dropping the former Atlanta United attacker for Saturday's visit of back-to-back champions Manchester City.

Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Darren Bent say he is "desperate" for the 25-year-old to break his goalscoring duck on Tyneside.

The former England and Sunderland striker believes his career in black and white will "motor forward" once he finds the back of the net.

Bent said: “I think the unluckiest player at the club goes to Almiron. I am so desperate for him to score because I really believe him and (Allan) Saint-Maximin give them the edge.

“They get up the pitch in a hurry and that will help Joelinton. Once those two get goals – not Saint-Maximin, because I think he’d play like that anyway, he’s full of confidence – but I think Almiron, he’s just desperate for that goal.

“When he gets that goal, he’ll get more confidence and start to motor forward, that will help Joelinton because he’ll get more and more chances. He has disappointed me."
