Miguel Almiron 'cost' Newcastle United against Everton by staying on his feet says Chris Waddle

Miguel Almiron should have gone down in the penalty box to win a foul as he went shoulder to shoulder with Michael Keane early on in the defeat against Everton.

With just two minutes on the clock, Almiron was sent into the box but with Keane for company - and as the defender knocked him off balance, the forward corrected himself and took a shot at goal.

But Newcastle United legend Chris Waddle , speaking for BBC 5Live, feels the £21 million man should have gone down, but 'cost' the Magpies by staying on his feet.

"I think if Miguel Almiron hits the ground on the tackle he'd have got a penalty," Waddle said.

"He tried to play on, which is admirable, but it cost Newcastle. He's been punished for doing the right thing."

Referee Lee Mason came in for criticism as Newcastle lost 2-1 to Everton with Andy Carroll and Fabian Schar also having shouts for penalties.

A double for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, either side of a Fabian Schar equaliser, was enough to give Everton the three points - and end United's home run which stood at eight unbeaten.
