Mighty Ducks' goalie Goldberg 'left out of reboot' despite cleaning up criminal past

Despite being one of the most famous characters in The Mighty Ducks, Goldberg isn't being included in Disney's TV reboot.

Shaun Weiss, who played the loveable goalie in the 90s movie franchise, has told pals he wasn't contacted by bosses ahead of the new series, but that he's still hopeful he'll get to reprise his character one day.

It's said that other original cast members from the movies, which starred Emilio Esteve and Joshua Jackson, could be brought back by director Steven Brill, but that Shaun won't be involved.

But sources tell TMZ that Shaun was doubtful he'd get the call anyway because of his criminal history.

The actor, 42, has struggled with drug addiction and dealt with a string of life-threatening issues.

He even lived on the streets at one point and was arrested for burglary and was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

Shaun has had a number of arrests in recent years.

In August 2018, he was arrested for public intoxication and spent a few hours in the drunk tank before being released without citation.

In July 2017, he was charged with pretty theft and received a 150-day sentence, but due to prison overcrowding, he was released after just 12 days.

He was picked up again not long after that for possession of methamphetamine, which saw him spend another 90 days behind bars.

Since then, he's cleaned up his act and recently celebrated one month of sobriety after entering a substance abuse programme.

Shaun has been staying at a sober living house where he's been filling his time by writing film scripts and working on his stand up comedy routine.

During his recovery, a Los Angeles dentist offered to replace his teeth free of charge, a gift valued between $50,000 and $100,000.

He's also said to have gained back the weight he had lost and be doing much better.

Shooting of the 10-episode series has already wrapped and it's believed that most of the original Mighty Ducks returned for a reunion episode.

And although Shaun would love to reprise his role, it's said that he's not holding out hope that Disney will reach out to him even if the show ends up getting picked up for another series.

Insiders say the actor got really emotional when he saw the trailer for the new series.

The Mirror has contacted Disney+ for comment.
