Midwest events: Lumberjack championships, a country music festival and more

Here are some of the more interesting events, deals, websites and other travel tidbits that have come across our desk recently:

_ For nearly 60 years, Hayward, Wis., has been home to the Lumberjack World Championships. This year's version, July 19-21, will find more than 100 competitors from around the world vying for cash prizes in log rolling, pole climbing, chopping, sawing and more. There's also live music in the Swinging Axe Beer Garden. www.lumberjackworldchampionships.com

_ The Bloomington, Ill., area's connections to Abraham Lincoln are celebrated July 20-22 with the Lincoln's Festival on Route 66: Trails, Rails & Roads. Activities will include Lincoln-themed films, living-history performances and a Civil War encampment and battle re-enactments. There will also be a car show and a historic bike show as well as an exhibit of Lincoln artifacts. www.lincolnsfestival.net

_ The Muskegon Museum of Art in Muskegon, Mich., is celebrating the sesquicentennial of famed photographer Edward Curtis with the exhibit The 150th Anniversary of Edward Curtis: 150 Masterpieces from "The North American Indian." On display through Sept. 9, the exhibit showcases photographs from Curtis' monumental task of documenting Native American tribes of the Western U.S. http://tinyurl.com/y7lpxjlm

_ Country music fans will head to Twin Lakes, Wis., on July 19-22 for the Country Thunder Music Festival. Headliners this year will include Luke Bryan, Toby Keith, Dierks Bentley and Sam Hunt. www.countrythunder.com/wi

_ The 3rd Annual Craft Beer and Jazz Street Fair will be held July 21 at Medici in the Uptown area of Normal, Ill. There will be live jazz and sampling of more than 40 craft beers. http://tinyurl.com/yawgj3nc

_ Tribute acts from across the Midwest will perform July 20-22 at the Tribute Island Music Festival at Simmons Island on the Kenosha, Wis., lakefront. Covering music from the last half century will be more than 50 bands on five stages. www.tributeisland.com

_ Mustangs from 1964 to 2018 will be on display July 20-21 at the fifth annual Ford Mustang Car Show in Mackinaw City, Mich. In addition to the car show, there will be a parade of the vehicles across the Mackinac Bridge and live music and a beer tent afterward. http://tinyurl.com/y8r4vnvn

_ The Barker Mansion in Michigan City, Ind. is offering Behind the Scenes tours July 18 and Aug. 15. The two-hour tours give a look at areas of the 1800s era home that aren't usually open to the public, including the former servants' quarters. _ The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, Mich., is holding a singer/songwriter workshop July 21-22. The session is limited to just eight people and is intended for adults who have at least an intermediate level of music knowledge and experience. http://tinyurl.com/y6v93ff4

_ The old Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, a popular destination for ghost hunters, will be the site of the INKcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival on July 13-15. More than 30 rock 'n' roll and heavy metal acts will perform on two stages, and there will be more than 25 booths featuring the work of 70-plus local and regional tattoo artists. _ The Three Rivers Festival in Fort Wayne, Ind., on July 13-21 will include more than 80 events. There will be a variety of live musical performances along with activities such as a children's fest, carnival rides, a shopping emporium, pontoon rides, an international village and bed races. www.threeriversfestival.org

_ The culture of Scotland will be the focus of the Minnesota Scottish Fair & Highland Games on July 20-21 in Eagan, Minn. Among the games competitions will be the caber toss, hammer throw and stone put. There will also be dance and pipe band competitions, Celtic music and exhibits by various clans. www.mnscottishfair.org
