Midweek win gives Shotts real hope of snatching West League One title

Shotts cut the gap on McBookie.com West League One leaders Gartcairn to just two points after beating Shettleston 3-0 on Wednesday.

Goals from Jordan Love and Adam Hunter had Shotts 2-0 ahead, and while the second half was a tighter affair, Love added his second and his team's third in 49 minutes.

That leaves Shotts breathing down Gartcairn's neck as they still have a game in hand over the Monklands club, though they're not in action again until May 11.

Gartcairn, who have been top for most of the season, end their campaign against third-placed Ardrossan on Saturday, which could have ramifications elsewhere.

Should Gartcairn beat Ardrossan, Blantyre Vics can pull themselves to within five points of third place, should they beat Bellshill.

Lesmahagow missed an opportunity to close the gap on League Two leaders Lanark United, as they fell to a 5-2 defeat at home to Forth Wanderers.

Two goals inside a minute from Nathan Fell and Nicky Collins had Forth 3-0 up at half-time.

'Gow pulled two goals back through a Scott Schoneville  penalty in 54 minutes and a 67th-minute strike by Jonny McStay, but Andrew Skinner made the points safe by bagging a fourth in 80 minutes, before Fell completed his hat-trick four minutes into stoppage time.

That leaves 'Gow eight points behind with a game in hand and three more games each to play after that.

It also pushes Forth closer to mid-table safety.
