Midtjylland suffer Covid blow as Celtic’s Champions League rivals lose teen frontman

FC Midtjylland have vowed to introduce stricter measures after one of their players tested positive for Covid-19.

Teenager Aral Simser returned a positive and is now likely to miss next week's game against Celtic, while they say he is showing no signs of infection.

They also claim he picked up the virus away from the club and in a private setting meaning nobody else has to isolate for them.

That is a boost ahead of their game against OB on Friday before the Champions League clash at Celtic Park next week.

Simsir has just broken into the Danish side’s first team after coming through the youth system and the 19-year-old is unlikely to have started next weekend.

But it means Celtic’s opponents have needed to up their Covid-19 measures and will test the entire squad before Friday night’s league game again.

A short statement on their website said: “Aral Simsir has been tested positive for Corona and is in isolation. He is presumed to have been infected privately and thus not in the club's environment. He has not shown any symptoms.

“Players and staff make the necessary reservations, and we have launched stricter measures.

“The rest of the team has tested negative and will be tested again before Friday's match against OB in the 3F Superliga. Thus, everyone who is on or around the team will have repeated negative tests before participating in combat.”

Ange Postecoglou’s side host the Danish champions in the first leg before the return clash in Denmark a week later.
