Midnight pursuit through Queanbeyan, driver charged

A man has been charged after a short police pursuit through Queanbeyan overnight.

About midnight on Tuesday, officers from Monaro Region Enforcement Squad identified a Holden Barina not displaying a rear number plate on Gilmore Place, in Queanbeyan.

The driver failed to stop for police and accelerated away.

A pursuit began and while attempting to turn right onto Tharwa Road shortly after, the Barina hit a telegraph pole. Three men then ran from the vehicle.

All three men were pursued by police and arrested nearby before being taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Glenmore Park in Sydney's west, was charged with failing to stop for police, drive recklessly and being an unlicenced driver.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, February 15.

The other two men were released without charge.
