Midlothian mum's warning after son cuts head open in 'dangerous' local park

A Midlothian mum has told Edinburgh Live of her concerns after her young son cut his head open while playing in the public park in Penicuik, saying that "it needs fixed so no other children get hurt on this."

Kai cut his head on rusty metal wire that was left hanging from a broken fence surrounding the football pitches in the park.

Nicolle Gall initially posted pictures of his injuries to Facebook, warning that the pictures were "very graphic".

She wrote: "Very graphic pictures but please beware of your kids when they are playing at the courts at the public park in Penicuik.

"My son was playing football when the ball went out of the court and he has went through the broken bit where the wires are hanging off and managed to cut his head open.

"I will be reporting this to the people I need to but until it’s fixed I wanted to let the other parents know about this and how dangerous these wires that are broken on the fence are.

"Please feel free to share too get the word out about how dangerous this is and something must be done to fix this!"

A Midlothian Council spokesman said: “We’re very sorry to hear of the boy’s accident. We will go and investigate as the fence appears vandalised. We will organise repairs and temporary safety measures to keep people away from that part of the fence asap. In the meantime we’d ask local people to be aware and to avoid the fenced area in question.”
