Midlothian mum's warning after 'old man in boiler suit' reportedly attempted to lure schoolgirl into car

Cops have launched a probe after a man attempted to lure an eight-year-old girl into a car in Midlothian.

The worrying incident took place on Saw Mill Gardens in Bonnyrigg at around 8.30pm on Sunday, August 4.

The frightened schoolgirl informed her mum who took to Facebook to ask for help finding the bearded man who she described as 'old with a grey beard' and wearing a boiler suit at the time of the alleged offence.

Officers from Police Scotland have been scouring CCTV footage in an attempt to track down the suspect.

The girl's mum wrote in a local community group that any information people may have should be passed onto police.

She said: "Just to make parents aware an old man grey hair with a beard and black boiler suit tried to get my 8 year old daughter to get in his car, Saw Mill, Bonnyrigg around 8.30 tonight. "

The mum described the car as red, with red fluffy dice hanging on the mirror.

A police spokesperson told Edinburgh Live said: "Police are investigating a suspicious incident in the Bonnyrigg area after a male driver engaged a young girl in conversation.

"Police are considering all evidential avenues, including CCTV, to ascertain the circumstances around this incident.

"The incident occurred at Saw Mill Gardens around 9pm on the 4 of August.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
