A Midlothian cat owner said she has been left devastated after her cat was found ‘hanging from a fence’ near Cowden Park in Dalkeith.

Cat owner Gillian Devlin told how she felt 'destroyed’ by the news that another local had found her cat Loki ‘with a rope around her neck.’

It is understood that a neighbour was walking her dog when she saw the cat 'hanging from the fence’ before 'cutting her down and alerting the owner.'

The eyewitness 'took photos of the cat' as evidence for the police.

Loki was two years old and her owner is desperate for police to catch 'who is responsible' for the alledged ‘cat hanging.’

She told Edinburgh Live: “I’m devastated and my son and daughters and family are sick with it.

“She was a wee quiet cat and for someone to tie rope around her neck and leave her to die from a fence is unbelievable

“I’m destroyed that this happened to my cat.”

Police say they are investigating the incident which is understood to have occurred between Monday, June, 14 and Thursday, June, 17.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Dalkeith are investigating the death of a cat found in the Woodburn Street area, which is believed to have happened between Monday, 14 June, and Thursday, 17 June. Enquiries are ongoing.”
