Midlothian college plead with dog-walkers to 'please take dog poo home'

A residential college in Midlothian that gives adults with 'varied life experiences' a route into college education, has had to deal with a pile of dog poop on their grounds.

Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith shared an image of a bin within the institutions' grounds with bags of dog excrement piled on top of it.

The historic 16th-century building used to be a Cistercian monastery and so is surrounded by luxurious land that is open for local people to use.

But after the good weather encouraged an influx of dog walkers to visit the estate, the college is now pleading with locals to 'please take their dog poop home with them.'

A post reads: "As you know, Newbattle welcomes dogs to the college grounds – we love dogs.

"However, the better weather has seen a huge increase in numbers visiting us.

"Please see the photograph for the result of these visits! We do not have a Poop Fairy, who will magically make these bags disappear, we only have our Facilities staff, and we think it’s unfair to ask them to clear this up.

"So, we are asking, in the absence of a Poop Fairy, please be the magic that takes your poop bag home with you.

"We want to share the grounds and gardens with the community, and we are asking the community to share some of the burden of supporting us to keep these grounds as magically beautiful as we can."
